Who we are
Damson Kitchen is made by an independent developer based in the United Kingdom, trading as Damson Kitchen. There is no company behind it. That person is the data controller for the little described below, and can be reached at hello@damsonkitchen.com.
The app
There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind. Everything you put in the app — recipes, collections, notes, planned meals and photos — is stored only on your phone. We never receive it, and we have no server that could.
- Importing a recipe fetches the page you asked for directly from your phone. That website sees the request as it would any visit; it does not pass through us.
- Exporting creates a backup file on your phone and hands it to whatever you choose to send it with. We never receive it.
- Scanning a recipe reads the photo on your phone. The photo is not uploaded anywhere.
- Sharing a recipe hands a message to the app you pick. Nothing is uploaded.
Android's own backup. Your phone may copy app data to your personal Google Drive so it can be restored on a new phone. That backup is yours: we cannot see or read it. Recipe photos are left out of it. You can turn it off in your phone's settings under System → Backup.
Emails
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write. Get Support in the app fills in your app version, phone model and Android version in the body of the message, where you can read them and delete anything before you send it.
We use your email only to reply, on the basis of our legitimate interest in answering you. We keep it only as long as we need to deal with your message and keep a record of it, and we never share it, sell it or add you to a mailing list. Our email provider stores messages on our behalf.
This website
The website uses no cookies, no analytics and no tracking, and its fonts are served from the site itself. It is hosted on GitHub Pages; like any web host, GitHub processes visitors' IP addresses to deliver the site and keep it secure, as described in GitHub's privacy statement.
Deleting your data
There is no account to delete, and nothing of yours on our side. To delete a recipe or collection, delete it in the app. To delete everything, uninstall the app. If you want to keep your recipes first, use Settings → Data & Backup → Export My Data before uninstalling.
Your rights
Under UK and EU data protection law you can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. In practice that means any emails you have sent us. Email hello@damsonkitchen.com and we will respond within a month.
You can also complain to a data protection authority: in the UK the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk), in Spain the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (aepd.es), or the authority where you live.
Children
Damson Kitchen is not aimed at children, and the app collects nothing from anyone. If a child has emailed us and a parent would like that email deleted, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date. This version replaces an earlier, longer one written while the website used Google Analytics; it no longer does.
